Sugar stocks of state-run mills to be sold soon, says Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Saturday his ministry will take a decision soon to sell the sugar stocks in the state-owned sugar mills after verifying the production cost and market price.
The minister expressed his hope that the process will bring dynamism in selling the stocks stuck up in the factories for a long time.
He was speaking during a visit to Keru and Co (BD) Ltd at Darshana in Chuadanga.
Mr Amu asked farmers to produce other cash crops with sugarcane to make the sugar mills profitable. 'Raw sugar' will be refined during out of the season to keep the sugar production smooth. Besides, efforts will be made to produce sugar from sugarbeat.
The minister said the present government will give special importance on setting up agro-based industries. He suggested for producing region-based crops and setting up of processing industries. He also gave assurance of policy support from the government for the development of the state-owned industries.
