Sugarcane crushing at Joypurhat begins

Our Correspondent JOYPURHAT, Nov 26: The Joypurhat Sugar Mills on Friday started sugarcane crushing for the current season. Ahsan Ali Mondol, a sugarcane farmer and ex-labourer Mozammel Haque of Joypurhat sugar mill inaugurated the crushing programme. The mill's managing director Md Sahid Ullah presided over the function when Joypurhat municipal mayor Abdul Aziz Molla, Awami League district secretary SM Solaiman Ali, Mostafa Kamal DGM (extension), Habibur Rahaman GM (agri) of the mill, Abu Taleb Mondol, president of Sugarcane Farmers Welfare Samity, Sugar mill labour organisation secretary Khorshed Alam spoke at the function. The mill sources said this season 10,000 acres of land have been brought under the sugarcane cultivation in the mill area. The mill has set a target of production of 600 tonnes of sugar by crushing 80 thousand tonnes of sugarcanes. Natore Our Correspondent from Natore reports: The North Bengal Sugar Mills, Gopalpur, known as NBSM produced 1024 metric tonnes of sugar by crushing 18,970 metric tonnes of sugarcane during last 10 days in 2011-2012 sugarcane crushing season. The mills crushed average 1,495 metric tonnes per day of which average sugar recovery was 5.88 per cent. The North Bengal Sugar Mills Ltd, Gopalpur, in Natore district began its 79th sugarcane crushing season 2011-2012 on November 11.
