Sugarcane crushing begins in Natore

Our Correspondent NATORE, Nov 12: North Bengal Sugar Mills Ltd (NBSM), Gopalpur, in Natore district began its 79th sugarcane crushing season 2011-2012 Friday. Managing Director of NBSM Engineer Md. Mahbubar Rahman told the correspondent that the mills fixed a target to produce 12,700 metric tonnes sugar by crushing 1,70,000 metric tonnes sugarcane in 103 days crushing period. North Bengal Sugar Mills crushed 2,47,194 metric tonnes sugarcane and produced 15,123.70 metric tonnes sugar in 150 days sugarcane crushing period in 2010-2011 season. North Bengal Sugar Mills is the 1st sugar mill in our country which was established in 1932 during the British period. The Natore Sugar Mills Ltd also began its sugarcane crushing season on November 11. DPHE implements water plant BSS reports: Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) Natore is implementing a project costing taka 150m with a view to ensure pure drinking water for the town dwellers. The project includes construction of arsenic & iron removal plant, one overhead tank, five water production tubewells and 56 km water supply pipeline. Concerned sources said, under the project, overhead tank of capacity one lakh 50 thousand gallon water is being constructed at the bus stand area and arsenic & iron removal plant at PTI bypass area. The plant will remove arsenic and iron from 30 thousand-liter water per hour. Construction work of five water production tube wells at Harishpur, Bus stand, Kandivita, Tebaria and Bargacha area of the town have already been completed. Construction of 56 km pipelines including house connection and water meter is going on in full swing, the sources added. Executive Engineer of Natore DPHE Wazed Ali said the development work is being implemented under the project of secondary town water supply and sanitation. The entire work of the project will be completed within the next fiscal year. After successful completion of the project, nearly one lakh people of pourasavha area will be benefited, he added.
