Sugarcane farmers to get bills through SMS

RAJSHAHI, Oct 5: More than 17,000 sugarcane farmers under Rajshahi Sugar Mills will be issued some 65,000 Purjis (permits) through SMS of mobile phones this year.
In addition, the information of bills of sugarcane supplied at the mills will also be sent to the farmers through SMS to spare them repeated visit to the mills to know whereabouts of their bills
The information was revealed at a workshop entitled 'Management of distribution of Purji through Digital Process and to Repay Price of Sugarcane' jointly organised by Access to Information Programme of the office of the Prime Minister and Bangladesh Sugar Mills and Food Industries Corporation at RSM training centre Saturday.
Yeahea Mia, Director, Sugarcane Development of RSM was present at the workshop as the chief guest.
Presided over by Al Amin, Managing Director of RSM, the function was addressed, among others by Farhad Zahid, Programme Analyst of Access to Information and General Manager (extension) of sugar mills Amjad Hossain as special guests.
Speakers at the workshop said, irregularities regarding distribution of Purji and payment of price of sugarcane to the farmers will be removed through the introduction of digital technology.
