Sultan off to New Delhi

Friday, 17 August 2007

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President SA Sultan left the city Thursday, with the New Delhi-bound national football team, to hold discussions on the first-ever Padma-Ganga Football Tournament.
During the four-day visit at the invitation of All-India Football Federation (AIFF) President Priyo Ranjan Das Munshi, the BFF boss will discuss the Padma-Ganga Football Tournament issue with AIFF President, reports UNB.
If the discussion becomes fruitful, the much-awaited tournament will be held by December this year in Dhaka.
Earlier, while in Dhaka in September last year, the AIFF President assured the BFF president of holding the Padma-Ganga tournament in Dhaka and Kolkata every alternate year and also announced the proposed date of the tournament.
But the tournament could not be held yet due to busy schedule of the Indian clubs as well as political unrest in Bangladesh.
Four popular clubs from each of the two countries will take part in the proposed Padma-Ganga Football Tournament, expected to act as a bridge between the two Bengals - Bangladesh and West Bengal.
