Sultans of Sylhet keep semifinal hope alive, Cyclones of Ctg taste 1st win in 4th match

Sultans of Sylhet and Cyclones of Chittagong won their respective matches in the Destiny Group National Cricket League (NCL) T20 at separate venues in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
In the day's matches, Sultans of Sylhet kept their semifinal hope alive beating Rajshahi Rangers by 20 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) at Mirpur while Cyclones of Chittagong, after losing three previous matches, tasted their first win in the league with an 8-wicket triumph over Barisal Blazers at the BKSP in Savar.
Sultans of Sylhet batted first to score a challenging total of 182 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs with openers Kaushalya Weeraratna smashing 40 runs off 27 balls with three fours and two sixes and another opener Dhiman Ghosh scoring 21 runs off 18 balls with two fours.
Number four batsman Alok Kapali cracked match highest 62 runs off 38 balls with nine fours and a six while speedster Mashrafee Bin Mortaza hammered 26 runs off 17 balls with a four and two sixes.
Suhrawardy Shuvo picked up three wickets for 33 runs while Sanjamul Islam took two wickets for 23 runs.
In reply, despite a blistering half century by middle order Shuvagato Hom, Rajshahi Rangers were restricted at 156 for 8 in 20 overs in the face of disciplined bowling by Sultans of Sylhet.
Shuvagato hammered 51 runs off 24 balls with two fours and four sixes while one down Nadif Chowdhury made run-a-ball 31 with two fours.
Openers Hannan Sarkar (21) and Aiden Blizzard (13) were the other notable scorers for Rajshahi Rangers.
Mosharaf Hossain Rubel and Farid Uddin Masud claimed three wickets each for 23 and 25 runs respectively.
Farid Uddin Masud of Sultans of Sylhet was adjudged the player of the match.
Sent in to bat first, Barisal Blazers faced a batting debacle and were dismissed for 92 in 17.2 overs, as Kazi Kamrul of Cyclones of Chittagong caused the major damage to Barisal Blazers innings grabbing four top order wickets for 23 runs.
Opener Shahreer Nafees scored 30 runs off 33 balls with four fours while tail-ender Ziaur Rahman made 12 off 20 balls with a six.
Arafat Sunny (11no) and Sagir Hossain (10) were the only other batsmen who reached double figures.
Apart from Kazi Kamrul's four-wicket haul, Enamul Haque Jr captured three wickets fore 15 runs.
Chasing an easy 93 runs, Cyclones of Chittagong reached their target making 95 runs in 13.5 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Soon after the departure of opener Uttam Sarkar (6) and local lad Aftab Ahmed (15), another opener Tamim Iqbal single-handedly took his team home as Marshal Ayub (not out 1) remained unbeaten till the end of the innings.
National opener Tamim hammered 65 runs off 51 balls with six fours and four sixes and was adjudged the player of the match.
Cyclones of Chittagong will play their next match against Dhaka Dynamites today (Friday) at 5:20 pm at SBNS.
