Suman's body handed over to family

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 23 August 2022

Police handed over the body of Rumman Sheikh Suman (27) to his family on Monday, 44 hours after a post-mortem.
The victim's father received the body from the mortuary of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital around 2:30 pm, a Hatirjheel police official told the FE.
Suman's family claimed he died in custody at Hatirjheel police station, but police snubbed their claim.
They said Suman had been working for marketing of water purification machine 'Pureit' of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd in Dhaka city's Rampura area.
Police picked Suman up on the night of August 19. Hearing the news, the family members rushed to the police station the same night.
The lawmen told them that he would be brought to the court on Saturday (August 21).
The family only came to know about Suman's death as they reached the police station on Saturday morning.
Mosharraf Hossain, elder brother of Suman's wife Jannat, said police asked them to go to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital to receive the body.
Later, the victim's father received the corpse.
An unnatural death case was filed with Hatirjheel police station, the police official said.
Duty officer Hemayet Hossain and constable Md Jakaria were temporary suspended soon after the incident due to negligence on their part, he added.
