Summer and load shedding
Tuesday, 2 April 2013
Dhaka dwellers know that they have to experience and endure a long bout of load shedding throughout summer. There is no escape from it. We are already experiencing load shedding and with the mercury going up, the situation will turn worse. I know we have huge deficit in supply against demand of electricity and it is not possible for the government to fix the problem overnight.
We all should try to use electricity as minimum as possible so that the situation can improved to some tolerable extent. I have seen electricity being wasted, specially during wedding programmes. In the name of wedding celebrations people use decorative lights for consecutive two or three days. Some people become overboard and not only decorate their own buildings but also whole streets.
It seems we have forgotten a time tested proverb, "waste not, want not". We should also use energy saving bulbs and equipment so that we can save electricity as mush as possible. In the meantime, the government should chalk down a long-term solution of energy crisis as we can not expect to achieve our goal of economic emancipation without adequate power added to our national grid.
