The privately-run Summit Group hopes to put into operation another 2 power plants in months to boost the country’s power generation now hovering at over 6,300 MW, officials said Saturday. The power plants are 335 MW Summit Meghnaghat Power; and 341 MW Summit Bibiyana II plant. Officials hope the two plants will add at least 500 MW to the national grid next year. Summit Meghnaghat’s simple cycle unit has been in operation for last few months producing over 160 MW. According to sources at PDB and Summit, the local power giant is preparing for putting the combined cycle unit at Meghanaghat into operation from October. The Summit Group’s Bibiyana II Plant’s simple cycle unit will come into operation from December 2014. American Electric major General Electric (GE) is its partner in both the projects having 20 per cent share in each plant while Summit holds 80 per cent of the shares, according to a news agency.
