A cargo ship that sunk in Meghna River in Chandpur district on August 26 has been located after about six days. However, BIWTA officials say chances of recovering ‘MV Chitalmari’ is slim as there are no rescue ships that can pull up a vessel weighing 1,500 tonnes. BIWTA’s Deputy Director Md Mobarak Hossain said the ship was located at the spot it had gone down in Chandpur’s Puranbazar Harisabha. The 1,300-tonne MV Chitalmari, loaded with clinker, sank after an oil tanker, MV Hikmat, rammed into it In Meghna River. Hossain said ‘The vessel weighed 1,500 tonnes (with goods) but no Bangladeshi rescue vessel was capable of lifting that much weight’, according to bdnews24.com.
