Monday, 12 May 2014

Superstore 'Swapno' has been fined again for violating the tobacco-control law. A mobile court fined one of its Dhaka outlets at Rampura’s Banasree Tk 100,000 for displaying cigarettes on a decorated shelf yesterday. The new tobacco-control law that came into force last year bans tobacco advertisements in any form, including at the point of sale. Penalties for its violation include three months in jail or a maximum fine of Tk 100,000, or both. Swapno’s Wari outlet was the first superstore which was fined Tk 30,000 in September last year under the law. The fine was doubled for the same outlet in February for repeating the offence, according to bdnews24.com.
