Though he termed his country’s interaction with the current regime not a business as usual, US Ambassador Dan W Mozena on Tuesday night said they will continue their support for the people of Bangladesh and strengthen its democratic process. “The US interaction with the sitting government is not a business as usual, but we’ll continue our support for the people of Bangladesh and for (its) democratic process undiminished,” he said. The US envoy made the remark while talking to reporters after an hour-long meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office. The meeting started at 8:30pm and ended at 9:30pm. Mozena said, “We’ll continue to engage with this government in support of all-out programmes for the people of Bangladesh. About other programmes, we’ll assess on case by case basis.” Sought his comment about a midterm election in Bangladesh, Mozean recalled that the Prime Minster had said about the dialogue and midterm polls. “I think it’s a good idea,” according to UNB.
