NILPHAMARI, June 25: Local people have demanded necessary financial and technical support to improve cattle-farming in Nilphamari.
Sources said, the inhabitants of the district are presently rearing almost 0.3 million (3.0 lakh) head of cattle, all of which are old and low-breed. These locally bred cows give one to three kg milk per day on an average, whereas one high breed cow would give 10 to 15 kg milk per day.
There is also a scarcity of genetically potential breeding bulls, required for developing the cattle in the region.
If the necessary financial and technical support is provided to the local farmers, the milk production of the district will be increased manifold, and they will be economically solvent and befitted.
Experts said, the development of the cattle sector in the monga prone Nilphamari district would also create newer employment opportunities, and contribute in poverty alleviation.
