Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta has called for reforming the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), but dismissed BNP’s demand that the elite anti-crime force be disbanded, according to a news agency.
Suranjit’s remarks came amid allegation that three RAB officials played a role in the abductions-killings of seven people in Narayangan, including Nazrul Islam, a councilor of the city corporation and local lawyer Chandan Sarker.
“I think it’s urgent to reform Rab to make it accountable. Any organization can be dreadful without accountability,” he said Monday.
He was addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Academy at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city.He rejected BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s demand to disband Rab.
