Awami League advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta has expressed his doubt about the effectiveness of the new broadcast policy. ‘I’m in doubt about the effectiveness of the broadcast policy. It’s a good move, but we have to think again how it’ll be successful in our confrontational politics,’ Sengupta has said. HeSuranjit made the remark while addressing a discussion in the city. He suggested the government take final decision about the policy after discussions with all stakeholders irrespective of party and opinion. ‘I want to tell the government that it’s not the last word that the policy has bee formulated. Still, there’s a scope for its correction. The commission in this regard will be more democratic if it’s formed in consultation with all stakeholders,’ he opined. About Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali’s offensive remarks about journalists, he said the minister must exercise restraint and should not lose his temper all of a sudden. Suranjit suggested his party colleagues to be respectful of the media saying that the media is the fourth estate of the country and democracy cannot flourish without it, according to a news agency.
