Suranjit rules out talks with \\\'anarchist\\\' BNP

Angered by the violence in the ongoing blockade sponsored by the BNP, senior ruling Awami League (AL) leader Suranjit Sengupta has dismissed possibilities of dialogue with the party, report agencies.
According to him, such destructive activities in Bangladesh could not be allowed for long.
Mr Sengupta said at a discussion Friday, "An elected government cannot be brought down by carrying out sporadic bombings and killing some people."
"The Awami League will not sit for dialogue with anarchists and terrorists," he said.
Mr Sengupta said he thought the blockade would end in a week.
"The movement will not only fail. It will fail lamentably," he said.
The AL leader was speaking in a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Academy on the current political situation at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh.
He also said the people of Bangladesh had support for Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed who warned that his force would open fire to stop bombings.
"Protecting people's lives is a duty of the law enforcers. They can open fire for this reason," he said.
Meanwhile, Suranjit Sengupta said if BNP could expel some of its American unit leaders for forging US congressmen's statements, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia should also expel herself from the post of party chief as she had also lied about telephonic talks with BJP chief Amit Shah.
"We came to know that BNP has expelled some of its American unit leaders for forging US Congressmen's statement. If it's so, Khaleda should expel herself from the post of the party chief as she had also lied about a telephonic conversation. There could not be two different punishments for the same offence," he said.
Terming BNP's ongoing movement for fresh parliamentary polls as an act of 'terrorism' and 'sabotage', Mr Sengupta observed that BNP's movement will go in vain as the country's people are not with terrorism and sabotage.
The people of the country hate terrorism and sabotage, he said adding BNP's movement will turn out to be a futile exercise like January 5 because the people of the country are no more with such terrorist activities and sabotage carried out by BNP in the name of movement.
"Such terrorist activities and sabotages cannot be continued any more. This movement will turn torpid within a week," he said.
Mr Sengupta urged BNP to be patient to return to the track of fair politics by waging a pro-people movement.
