Surayya Akhtar Jahan made DNCC administrator

Surayya Akhtar Jahan has been appointed as administrator of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) after the government decided not to renew the one-year contract of Mohammad Azaz.
The appointment of Mr. Surayya, an Additional Secretary at the Local Government Division, was made through a gazette notification issued on Monday.
Mr. Azaz was appointed as the DNCC administrator on a full-time basis on 9 February last year for a one-year term.
In a press release, Md Alamgir Hossain, Public Relations officer of the ministry, said Mr. Azaz had not been removed from the post, rather he will be relieved of his duties upon completion of his tenure.
Surayya is scheduled to assume her new responsibility on 11 February.
Mr. Azaz, who also serves as chairman of the River and Delta Research Centre, recently came under scrutiny over corruption allegations.
In November last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an inquiry against him over alleged abuse of power, irregularities, corruption and bribery.
As part of the investigation, the ACC summoned him for questioning at its headquarters on 29 January, but he did not appear.
