Friday, 25 September 2009

FE Report
Burglars stole surgical equipment from an operation theatre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Wednesday, police said.
The burglary took place three days after a sensational burglary at a jewellery shop at Gulshan Plaza from where thieves looted gold ornaments worth about Tk 60 million on the night of Eid.
Locals said the gang selected the time to commit the crime, as most of the doctors, nurses and other staff were on Eid vacation.
Sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Wahidur Rahman Majumdar told the FE that the theft occurred at the Department of Urology of the country's leading public hospital in between 4:00pm on Wednesday and 7:30am on Thursday.
"37 types of surgical apparatus were stolen from the operation theatre on the second floor of a four-storey building, " Mr Majumdar, also investigation officer of the case, said. But he could not determine the value of the stolen items.
The DMCH authorities said they locked the door of the operation theatre Wednesday afternoon soon after ending the official hours and found the lock of the door broken when they came to open the theatre in the morning.
A case was filed in this connection. No arrest was made in this regard.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Rezaul Karim said they are investigating the incident.
