A section of pro-liberation teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet have observed a token hunger strike, demanding the removal of its vice chancellor Prof Dr Aminul Haque Bhuiyan. The teachers under the banner of ‘Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad’ started the strike around 10am on Wednesday in front of the VC’s building as part of their planned programmes to press home their demand and continued it till 4pm. They will also observe a daylong work abstention on Thursday to press for the same demand, said Parishad convener Prof Sayed Samsul Alam. Meanwhile, pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers’ forum of the university demanded a judicial probe into the whole matter. Terming the system of the movement a stupid one, Forum convener Prof Sajedul Karim said some teachers of the university carried out movements several times to remove the VC to make their personal gain, according to a news agency.
