SUST teachers protest BCL men\\\'s attack

SYLHET, Aug 31: A section of ruling party-backed teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) observed Monday a three-hour work abstention in protest against the BCL men's attack on their colleagues.
Under the banner of 'Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad', pro-liberation teachers wearing black badges took out a procession on the campus and later staged a rally at the gate of the administrative building-II (VC building).
Prof Yasmin Haq and Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, among others, addressed the rally.
Strongly protesting the BCL men's attack on Sunday, the speakers said they will continue with the agitation programme until the vice-chancellor resigns.
Convener of the parishad Syed Shamsul Alam claimed that at least seven teachers were injured in the attack on Sunday.
Since April 23, these teachers have been continuing with its agitation programme, demanding resignation of the VC.
Meanwhile, the students brought out a procession and formed a human chain on the campus to protest Sunday's attack on the teachers. They later held a rally demanding exemplary punishment to the attackers.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee led by Physical Science Dean Dr Sabina Yasmin has been formed to investigate the incident, said VC Prof Md Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
Other members of the committee are Proctor Prof Kamruzzaman Chowdhury and Parvin, associate professor of Social Works Department.
