Tuesday, 15 July 2014

Teachers and students of Bangla Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) confined the vice chancellor to his office for about an hour on Tuesday, demanding allotment of adequate space for classes and other academic activities for the department. SUST proctor Prof Himadri Shekhor Ray said the protesting teachers and students first started a sit-in in front of the VC’s office and locked the entrance around 11:30am. Later, a representative of the protesters met SUST VC Prof Aminul Haque to discuss their problems. As the VC assured the teachers and students of finding a solution to their problems within 15 working days after the Eid vacation, they withdrew their programme and unlocked the entrance. Chairman of the Bangla Department Prof Abdur Rahim, assistant professors Farzana Siddika, Jafir Setu and Sohel Rana took part in the protest, according to UNB.
