Sustained power supply during Ramadan imperative

Thursday, 31 March 2022

The holy month of Ramadan, which bears special significance for every Muslim, is coming in April this year. And it is one of the warmest months in Bangladesh. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the country may experience a mild to moderate heat wave during this time. Despite this, many places in Bangladesh, especially rural areas are now facing load shedding on a regular-basis. This has made the scorching temperature unbearable even at the dead of night. We have been facing power outages many times a day in Chattogram. If this continues, how will the devout Muslims observe their fasting?
Power outage is the last thing the fasting people would want during the holy month of Ramadan. To create a soothing environment for them, the authorities concerned should ensure uninterrupted power supply during this month, particularly during the Sehri, Iftar and Taraweeh prayers across the country.
