Suu Kyi slammed for silence over Rohingya
Monday, 24 August 2015
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani has sharply criticised Myanmar politician Aung San Suu Kyi for her silence over Rohingya issues though she was awarded the Nobel Prize in peace. “She (Suu Kyi) has not uttered a single word and single syllable (on Rohingya issue),” the visiting OIC secretary general said. He said the whole world and all the humanitarian organisations should be more vocal recognising the problem on human rights front. “It’s not interfering but recognising the problem.” He said they are, in the OIC, very much concerned over the atrocity and mentioned that the Rohingya people are even deprived of their nationality. The OIC Secretary General said they are also trying to create a dialogue to resolve the issue. “We’ll keep up our efforts as an organisation.”
On Sunday, Madani pledged all-out efforts for further enhancing the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and OIC in various fields. He is on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh, according to a news agency.
