Indian external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has left Dhaka after her three-day visit. It was her first visit to any country after taking over charges at the external affairs ministry last month. Sushma Swaraj left for New Delhi on a special Air India flight around 1:30pm on Friday from Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Kurmitola in Dhaka. She was accompanied by Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh and spokesperson Syed Akberuddin. Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque saw her off at the airport. During her visit, she discussed bilateral issues with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and hoped for early settlement of the Teesta water-sharing and the land boundary agreement issues. She held talks with President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia during her visit. During her meeting with Hasina on Thursday, Swaraj emphasised resolving all contentious bilateral issues through talks.
