Sweden has been urged to expand its trade and investment in Bangladesh.
Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) President Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury made the appeal while Swedish Envoy John Frisell called on her at her JS office in the city on Sunday, reports BSS.
"Sweden is a long-time friend of Bangladesh. There are scopes for expanding trade and investment between the two countries," the Speaker told the Swedish envoy.
During the meeting, they talked about issues of bilateral interest, including trade, investment and development.
The Speaker also recalled her participation in CPA conference at Stockholm in Sweden on April 23-25 and highlighted Bangladesh's success in various fields, including reproductive health and child and maternal mortality and early marriage.
The Swedish envoy appreciated Bangladesh's advancement in women empowerment, gender equality and other sectors.
Referring to the challenges of rapid urbanisation, the envoy said all challenges could be faced through mutual cooperation between the two countries.
