Syedpur-Chilahati rail route renovation works begin

NILPHAMARI, May 24: Syedpur Chilahati rail route renovation and rehabilitation works have started recently. Sourced said 63.90 km railway track renovation works going on rather slowly. A private company MAPZ-TTCL-JV was contracted at Tk. 1.4368 billion for the renovation works. The route to be renovated would include the railway stations of Darwani, Khairat Nagar, Nilphamari College station, Nilphamari station, Taranibari station, Domar station, Mirjagonj station, and Chilahati station. New infrastructures would also be built at the last railway station at Chilahati for Inter-City trains to run up to there. The renovation works would help to establish land port of the region at Chilahati. Sources said the railway route would also create connectivity to Nepal, Bhutan and seven sister states of north eastern India and reopen Chilahati- Holdibari (India) rail route which was closed in 1965 after Indo-Pak war.
