NILPHAMARI, May 25: Despite acute manpower shortage Syedpur railway workshop increased its productivity by more than 30% in the last three months. Beginning from January to March this year, the workshop renovated 48 passenger coaches and 123 goods wagons. Sources said the present manpower requirement is 3026 persons whereas against this requirement there are only 1532 employees working in the workshop. This shortage has been created due to non recruitment of employees for a long time. The workshop was established in 1870 on 110 hectares of land and it had 10,000 employees at that time for operating the workshop in three shifts in a day. At present renovation of the workshop also has just been started.
