Sylhet Nursing College closed

Authorities have closed down Sylhet Nursing College for an indefinite period and asked students to vacate dormitories by 5:00pm on Tuesday. The move comes after Monday’s incident in which intern doctors at MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital had reportedly assaulted apprentice nurses. Students of the nursing college boycotted classes and exams in protest against the attack and stopped working at the hospital. Six nurses, both male and female, were injured in the attack that took place around 12.30am on Monday. Condition of one of the injured, ‘Proloy’, is reported to be critical. Five others – Nila Khatun, Ashim Dey, Jahira Sultana, ‘Zahid’ and ‘Jahangir’ – received treatment at different hospitals and clinics in the north-eastern divisional city, according to a news agency.
