Sylhet well goes for trial production

SYLHET. Sept 5: The newly-drilled gas well (KTL-7) of the state-run Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited (SGFL) began trial production today.
Harun Ur Rashid Molla, general manager of the SGFL and project director, told this correspondent that drilling of the 'appraisal-cum-development' well at the Kailashtila Gas Field in Golapganj upazila concluded nine months ago by the government's petroleium exploration company Bapex.
He said the well is supplying about eight million cubic feet gas a day to the national grid. The drilling began on October 17 last year and was completed in three months.
A 1.6 kilometre pipeline to connect the well with the processing plant was constructed at a cost of Tk 100 million, the official noted.
In 2013, the Prime Minister during her visit to Golapganj laid foundation of the Tk 1,180 million-drilling project.
The Gas Development fund (GDF) of the Petrobangla implemented the project.
In 2011-12, Bapex had carried out 3D surveys in Kailashtila, Rashidpur and Haripur and found oil and gas reserves in several zones below the gas structures in Kailashtila and Haripur, but it found only gas in Rashidpur.
Petrobangla chairman Md. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited (SGFL) Managing director Md. Mostafizur Rahman and senior officials were present in the function.
