The Association of Humboldt Fellows Bangladesh has organised a symposium titled Environmental Challenges in the New Millennium, says a press release.
This 3-day conference financed by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Bonn (Germany) began in the city Thursday.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes academic cooperation between outstanding scientists and scholars from abroad including Germany. It grants up to 800 fellowships and more than 100 awards annually which allow scientists and scholars to come to Germany in order to work on a research project.
Since the formation of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 1953, almost 90 Bangladeshi Scholars received grants to conduct research in Germany, the majority being scientists and engineers.
The Humboldt Kolleg in Dhaka will strengthen the regional and professional network of Alexander von Humboldt Alumni.
Humboldt fellows from several renowned academic and research institutions of Bangladesh and from abroad are presenting their latest scientific findings related to environmental challenges, thus encouraging discussions and professional debates.
Distinguished personalities like the minister for foreign affairs, the minister for education, the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee for climate change, the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany and the ambassador of the European Commission will be present at the symposium.
