T-Aman cultivation exceeds target in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Sept 18 (BSS): Cultivation of T-Aman paddy, a high value crop, has exceeded in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season with an expectation of bumper production.
Official sources said, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office set a target to cultivate T-Aman paddy on 1,21,259 hectares of land in the district this year with the production target of 3, 13,475 tonnes of rice.
Of the total, some 1, 04, 445 hectares of land would be cultivated with HYV (high yield variety) with an output target of 2, 84,080 tonnes of rice, 1,005 hectares hybrid with the target of 3,317 tonnes and 15,809 hectares LV (local variety) with the target of 26,078 tonnes, sources said.
Of the total, some 17,700 hectares of land were cultivated in Sadar upazila, 13,950 in Sadullapur upazila, 12,500 in Palashbari upazila, 28,900 in Gobindaganj upazila, 25,500 in Sundarganj upazila, 14,500 in Saghata upazila and 8,209 in Fulchhari upazila.
Later, the target fixed by the department was increased bringing an additional 6,751 hectares of land under cultivation till September 10 due to favorable climatic condition during the current season.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers at fair prices through its sale centres and approved dealers.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) are disbursing agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the paddy, said Masud Karim, Deputy General Manager of RAKUB here.
