T-Aman cultivation nears completion in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 24 (BSS): The cultivation of transplanted (T) Aman paddy is nearing completion in all seven upazilas of the district during the current season.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said that a total of 1, 27,460 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman cultivation this year.
At the initial stage of the season, the farmers were facing troubles in farming the paddy for want of rainfall. Later, after getting desired rainfall in the beginning of the Bangla month Bhadra, the farmers are passing their busy time with farming the paddy on their respective land.
Meanwhile, as many as 1, 22, 229 hectares of land of the district were farmed T-Aman paddy till on Thursday and the rest land would be brought under the farming within August 30, said an official of the DAE.
To bring the total land under T-Aman farming, the farmers of the district prepared seedbeds on 7,089 hectares of land, he also said.
Earlier, to make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) timely distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers at fair prices.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank disbursed agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers of the district to help them cultivate the paddy on their land, sources said. Apart from this, DAE also provided training to the farmers of the district for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seed.
Farmers have already cultivated 96 per cent of their total land till on Thursday and the rest would be finished by August 30.
