T-Aman cultivation target achieved in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Sept 28 (BSS): T-Aman paddy cultivation has been achieved in all the seven upazilas in the district during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to cultivate T-Aman paddy on a total of 1, 22, 950 hectares of land of the district this year.
At the middle of the season the transplantation of Aman seedlings was hampered due to drought like situation. Later, the target fixed by the department was fully achieved after heavy blissful rainfall.
Of the total, some 17,500 hectares of land were brought under this cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,500 hectares in Sadullapur Upazila, 13,500 hectares in Palashbari Upazila, 31,500 hectares in Gobindaganj Upazila, 23,850 hectares in Sundarganj Upazila, 13,650 hectares in Shagata Upazila and 8,450 hectares in Fulchhari Upazila in the district.
The seedlings of the transplanted aman paddy have grown well and taken a new look at this moment.
Now, the farmers are nurturing the paddy field with the hopes of getting desired production of the crops this season.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success through encouraging the farmers, BADC and BMDA distributed high quality seed to them at reasonable rate side by side with ensuring the supply of fertilizers, pesticides and other necessary inputs at fair prices by the government among them.
The commercial banks including RAKUB also disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal growers during the current season to help them bring all the arable land under cultivation programme to achieve the country's food security, sources said.
Besides, the officials of DAE are also conducting farmers training in field level on the latest agro technologies to help them get boost production of paddy.
To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, BMDA has also kept its electricity run deep tube wells fully ready to supply irrigation water to the Aman paddy field, if necessary, said executive engineer of BMDA M. Noor Islam.
Talking to the BSS deputy director of DAE M. Qurban Ali said the target fixed by the department has already been achieved and it will be exceeded during the current season as the farmers of Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shagata Upazilas will cultivate late variety Ganzia, BRRI Dhan- 28 and Nazirshal paddy on their char land and low lying areas of the Brahmaputra river basin after removing flood water from there in addition to the targeted one.
