T-Aman harvest begins in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Dec 02 (BSS): Farmers have started harvesting Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in the district with a good yield.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) official said farmers have already harvested T-Aman on 61,435 hectares of land till today.
Per hectare yields of hi-breed and local varieties of T-Aman have crossed the respective production targets while production of High Yielding Variety has also met the production target, the official said.
Deputy Director of DAE Md Aminul Islam said farmers have harvested T-Aman paddy on 57 per cent of land and got good yield.
The target of T-Aman cultivation was fixed on 1,06,300 hectares of land with the production target of 2,93,426 tonnes of rice. But against the target farmers planted T-Aman paddy on 1,08,430 hectares which is 2130 hectares higher than the target, he said.
On the other hand, flood has damaged T-Aman crops on 470 hectares of land.
Farmers cultivated T-Aman on 30,300 hectares of land in Jamalpur Sadar, 15,100 hectares in Sarishabari, 16,500 hectares in Melandah, 9,830 hectares in Islampur, 8,645 hectares in Dewanganj, 14,715 hectares in Madarganj and 13,340 hectares in Bakshiganj upazila.
DAE distributed various incentives among small and marginal farmers to increase T-Aman production in the district.
