T-Aman harvest starts in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 30: The farmers of the district have started harvesting of T-Aman paddy of current season in the district with much festivity and happy mood as they are getting high price rate against the crop.
Official sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to cultivate a total of 1,22, 950 hectares of land in the district this year with the production target of 2,86,665 metric tons of rice.
In the mid-season, the cultivation of T-Aman paddy was hampered due to drought like situation but later the target fixed by the department was fully achieved after adequate rainfall in the district.
Of the total, some 17,500 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,500 in Sadullapur Upazila, 13,500 in Palashbari Upazila, 31,500 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 23,850 in Sundarganj Upazila, 13,650 in Saghata Upazila and 8450 in Fulchhari Upazila in the district, sources said.
The farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of T Aman Paddy during this season.
Crops production specialist of DAE Satya Brata Paul said favourable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed of BADC and BMDA and timely supply of fertilizers and other agri-inputs to the growers are the reasons behind the bumper production.
The farmers are in happy mood as per maund (40 kg) of paddy is being sold at local market between TK 725 and 750.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success and to bring all arable land under this programme, the commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank also disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal farmers during the season.
Talking to the FE Deputy Director of DAE M. Qurban Ali said the full harvest of T-Aman paddy would start in the district at the middle of December.
The harvest of short duration paddy like BINA-7, BRRI Dhan-33, 39, and BU-1 has already been completed in the district with a desired production of the varieties, he also said.
