GAIBANDHA, Oct 19: The T-Aman paddy fields have taken a greenish look in all the seven upazilas of the district.
Official sources said the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to cultivate a total of 1, 22,950 hectares of land in the district this year with the production target of 2,86,665 metric tonnes of paddy.
In the mid-season the cultivation of T-Aman paddy was hampered due to drought like situation. But the target fixed by the DAE was achieved after heavy rainfall in the district.
Of the total, some 17,500 hectares of land were brought under cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,500 hectares in Sadullapur Upazila, 13,500 T-Amon hectares in Palashbari Upazila, 31,500 hectares in Gobindaganj Upazila, 23,850 hectares in Sundarganj Upazila, 13,650 hectares in Shagata Upazila and 8,450 hectares in Fulchhari Upazila in the district.
The farmers are nurturing the paddy field with the hopes of getting desired production of the crops this season.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success, BADC and BMDA distributed high quality of seed to the farmers at a reasonable rate. Fertilizers, pesticides and other necessary inputs were supplied by the government at fair prices.
The commercial banks including RAKUB also disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal growers during the current season to help them bring all arable land under cultivation to achieve the country's food security, sources said.
Talking to the Financial Express deputy director of DAE M. Qurban Ali said the farmers are so much confident of bumper yield of the paddy as the favourable climatic condition is now prevailing in the district.
