Taiwan Semiconductor's Q1 profits grow 20-fold

TAIPEI, April 27 (AFP): Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co said today its net profit in the first quarter rose more than 20-fold from last year as demand soars following the downturn.
TSMC, the world's leading contract microchip maker by revenue, said its net profit for the three months to March was 33.66 billion Taiwan dollars (1.05 billion US), up from 1.56 billion Taiwan dollars a year ago.
