Taiwanese team mulls $100m investment in Bangladesh

CHITTAGONG, Oct 18: Mr Endi Kung, the chief of the visiting Taiwanese trade delegation informed the BEPZA chief that they were contemplating to invest 100 million dollars in Bangladesh.
Talking to the Executive chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Brig. Gen. Jamil Ahmed Khan in a meeting held on Wednesday at the CEPZ Mr Kung also said that as many as 13 Taiwanese companies are operating business in this country and 11 more are processing to establish business here.
BEPZA chief sounded optimistic that favourable environment of foreign investment existed Bangladesh and workers were available here at a cheaper rate as well as maximum security was being ensured by the government and as such, volume of foreign investment was on a rise every year.
Speaking on the occasion BEPZA Executive chairman said, CEPZ is equipped with 85 'A' category, 20 'B' category and 37 'C' category factories and exported goods worth 1.117 billion dollar in 2007-08 fiscal and the target set for the current fiscal is 1.285 dollar.
Referring to the factories which could not be launched due to lack of gas supply, BEPZA chairman said that the government would take all possible steps to provide gas connection to those factories.
