Wednesday, 23 June 2010
Bangladesh taka depreciated 0.08 per cent against the US dollar in the last one week following a rise in demand for the greenback in the market. The US dollar was traded at Tk 69.3900 to Tk 69.4100 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market Tuesday against Tk 69.3400 to Tk 69.3450 a week earlier, treasury officials said. "The local currency has depreciated against the US dollar in line with the market demand," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE without elaborating. The buying rate of US dollar in the kerb market was higher by over Tk 4.0 Tuesday than what was offered by the state-owned banks. On Monday, the BB bought US$5.0 million from two commercial banks. — FE report
