Take action against cops in Rajon killing case: NHRC chief

SYLHET, Aug 4: Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman asked on Tuesday the authorities concerned for taking steps against the  police officials who neglected their duties after the murder of 13-year Samiul Alam Rajon.
'Not only suspension, they should be tried under criminal laws', he said while visiting the house of the victim at village Badeali in Sylhet Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.  
The rise of child abuse incidents all over the country in recent times is a matter of great concern, Mizanur said.
It is a clear violation of human rights, he said adding it should be enquired whether the police or lawmen's negligence is responsible for the incident.
Mizanur Rahman also demanded bringing the prime accused Kamrul back to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia immediately.
"We want to see the government high-up's assurance in this regard. It is possible to bring the man back soon, the NHRC chief noted.
He also asked for filing charge-sheet in the much-talked about case soon.
Prof Mizanur consoled Rajon's parents at the house.
Rajon was tortured to death in the morning of July 08 at Tukerbazar bus stand in the hands of some locals. Eight of the 12 arrested persons in the case gave confessional statement before court while the prime accused fled to Saudi Arabia. However, expatriates caught and handed him over to the police there.
