Take effective steps to make Buriganga pollution-free: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the authorities concerned to take effective measures for reclamation of Buriganga River and making it free from pollution. She gave the directives while presiding over a meeting at her office on Sunday on reclamation of all flowing rivers including Buriganga around Dhaka city. She also directed the concerned officials to take steps to implement the circular road and river route surrounding the capital. The Prime Minister said: ‘This is our project and we will have to implement it.’ She said with the implementation of the project, it would bring a positive change in the environment of Dhaka city. The meeting decided that the Shipping Ministry will launch circular river route that will touch Ashulia, Amin Bazar, Sadarghat, Fatullah, Kanchpur and Tongi. The Roads and Highways Division and Bangladesh Water Development Board will construct the four-lane circular road including Eastern bypass around Dhaka City with the assistance of Bangladesh Army. The Prime Minister’s office will coordinate the construction of the circular road, according to BSS.
