Take steps to reopen Malaysian job market

Recruiting agents urge govt

FE REPORT | Thursday, 26 May 2022

Manpower recruiters have urged the government to take steps for immediate resumption of the Malaysian job market to protect the interests of workers and the country as a whole.
They also said they would accept any decision of the government regarding manpower sending process, and they wanted to send workers at a lower migration cost.
They came up with the demand at a view-exchange meeting on 'Increase in overseas employment and opening closed markets' organised by BAIRA United Democratic Front at a city hotel on Tuesday.
Anisul Islam Mahmud, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, attended it as the chief guest while Benjir Ahmed, former president of BAIRA, among others, was present.
Md Ruhul Amin Shawpon, former secretary general of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), says the Malaysian job market is very important for Bangladeshi workers; but a section of people create complications in the way of opening up the market on every occasion and such people made obstacle this time also through protest against alleged syndication.
The BAIRA former secretary said it was not important whether the number of recruiters would be smaller or bigger; the government should rather prioritise opening of the market to tap its potential soon.
They (manpower recruiters) want the market to be opened and that's why they would accept any decision from the government regarding manpower sending process, he added.
Benjir Ahmed said the decision would be taken by both the governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia. He also hoped that both the countries would take steps and the market would resume shortly.
Mr Ahmed, however, criticised the role of manpower recruiters who were protesting against the alleged syndication and said 'none of the recruiters are free and fair'.
