Take steps to stop violence, HC tells govt

The High Court directed the government Sunday to take effective steps to stem the current tide of violence and anarchy in the country amid hartal and blockade, as the turmoil generated in the political arena lasted 41 days.
An HC bench comprising Justice Dr. Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman came up with the orders upon a writ petition.
The court also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain as to why the ongoing "violence in the name of hartal and blockade should not be declared illegal".
Shahinur Rahman Shahin, a businessman of Keraniganj area, filed the petition.
Responding to another writ, filed by Shafiul Azam Khan Barku, chairman of the managing committee of Ispahani School in Keraniganj, the HC also ordered that the government should take necessary measures to hold the Secondary School Certificate examinations  on schedule.
