Taking action against illegal brick kilns
Saturday, 30 April 2022
We have come across newspaper reports on how brick kilns are being set up without following proper procedures and even without the permission of the authorities concerned. Though there is a special law called The Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kilns Establishment Act, 2013, only a few brick field owners comply with the rules and regulations of that act.
If someone pays visit to their village homes, he/she is sure to see brick kilns constructed on agricultural lands. Some of these brick fields have been set up in the middle of the agricultural fields in an attempt to force the owners of surrounding crop fields to sell their land to the owners of those brick kilns. What is more worrying is that a number of farmers are selling their fields' top soil to them for making bricks. This has made many crop fields infertile and comparatively low for cultivation.
I would like to draw the attention of the government to take action against the illegal brick kiln owners. The detrimental impact of these kilns on our agricultural land and our environment is reason enough for a strict intervention from the authorities.
