Tale of two villages

CHANDPUR, July 30: Chhengarchar Municipality in Matlab Uttar upazila was established in 1998, but two villages--Dengurviti and Daiyakhola--under this municipality are yet to see any development in the last 24 years.
Though the municipal authority announces annual budget every year for development of roads and culverts and ensuring pure drinking water and sanitation facility for the people of this pourasava, no development works have yet been carried out at the two villages having a population of about five thousand.
The villagers suffer a lot due to lack of paved roads, pure drinking water as well as sanitation and drainage system. There is a 3-km kutcha road used by most people, but no rickshaw or van can run smoothly along this road.
People from all walks of life have to use this road to go to the district town for doing various work like shopping. It becomes muddy and often goes under water due to torrential rain for hours or days, creating immense sufferings to the local residents. Elderly people, patients and pregnant women are the worst sufferers.
Many potholes have also developed on the road, adding to woes of the local people.
Despite repeated assurances, no deep tube-wells or shallow tube-wells have been installed yet by the municipal authority for supplying drinking water to the people of the two villages.
