Talkative and imaginative as well

Saturday, 21 March 2009

I have come to the conclusion that we Bengalis (or Bangladeshis if you like) are a talkative and argumentative race-if one can call us a race in anthropological terms that is. We love spinning stories, outlandish tales if it takes our fancy. The best part is you can always get gullible people to believe us.
Take for instance, the BDR massacre. The case is still under investigation. But even before the investigation began people were pointing fingers at the 'real' people behind it as well as the real 'motive'. Culprits ranged from the CIA to RAW to the Israelis.
"They want to break down our defence system!"
"They want to capture our gas fields!"
"They will next grab our part of the ocean!"
They were not going to wait for the authorities to determine through inspection, investigation, analysis of the evidence, result of the interrogation of various people, from the perpetrators to the eye witnesses. Pillory of India is a common outcome of this incident.
Granted that this one was one of the darkest events of our country but does it call for mass hysteria? The latest version of this mass murder is that 25 Indian commandos including a woman (?!) arrived into the BDR compound and conducted the entire massacre from beginning to end. All this scenario probably lacks is that a couple of Martians also performed mass hypnotism on the BDR jawans and made them do what they did. Although one does not like to make light about such a thing, could we not wait for the investigation to finish?
And now people are already pointing fingers at the Jamuna Group for the fire in Bashundhara City? Imagine.
Yes, we are not only argumentative, talkative but also highly imaginative.
