Meanwhile, we are told that the exhibition of lewd and obscene films has suddenly risen recently. And how do they say this? They say that they have noticed that in the recent past not a single print of any lewd film were seized by the authorities. This a roundabout way of saying that most cinema halls in the country were exhibiting those kind of films during this period. Right?
The problem is sometimes you can catch the offender and at other times you simply cannot. There is a time for everything. Like, er, when animals are in heat?
Well, sometimes the wrongdoers are at an advantage. The exhibitors do everything right so that they do not to get caught with their pants down. Sometimes they camouflage whatever they are doing. People from the outside will think they are showing the local version of "Sound of Music" but in reality, people inside are watching the Bangladeshi version of a cross between "Deepthroat V" and "Perverts In Paradise".
How do you stop this? You cannot because you just cannot shoot them and that is the only remedy. Face it, many film fans want their quota of obscenity.
The problem is these lewd filmmakers will never understand that good, clean films with good stories and well made will fetch them ten times the money that ten obscenity laced films cannot hope to make. Others say they understand this very well but what can they do? They cannot make those good films because they don't know how. How do you teach those old dogs new tricks? Fanatics say, one trick is to beat them mercilessly until they either learn their trade well or give up filmmaking altogether.
So what is the future of our films? Well, from the way things are happening the current trend will continue. There will be times when the watchdog authorities will go after the bad guys and then there will be periods of what they call the golden "chhotto- chhotto" breaks of obscenity.
Meanwhile, there has been roars of protests (at least by scribes writing in newspapers) recently against lewd dances that continue to be filmed and exhibited with those who have the power to stop it observing a reverential silence so that those engaged in this business can carry on without hindrance or at least from any trouble from their side. Some say these bad and mad people are taking advantage of the inclement weather; while everyone else have their undivided attention on it they are carrying on with their dirty work. — A Cine Viewer
