Tangail crash death toll rises to five

The death toll in Sunday’s road accident at Kalihati of Tangail rose to five as two more people succumbed to their injuries at Tangail Medical College Hospital at night. However, their identities could not be known. Earlier three people – Haidar Ali, 40, son of Shukur Ali, Haidar Ali, 45, son of Saban Ali, 45, hailed from Gaibandha district and an unidentified baby girl aged about 6 months – died on the spot and a dozen others were injured as a bus collided with a truck at Char Bhabla at Kalihati Upazila in the afternoon. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banghabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge East Police Station Aktheruzzaman said the mishap took place on Banghabandhu bridge link road at about 3:30pm when a Dhaka bound bus crashed into a truck. Three people died on the spot and 12 others injured, he said. The injured were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital where two more succumbed to the injuries at night, police and hospital sources said, according to a news agency.
