Tangail district now self-sufficient in egg production

TANGAIL, Oct 19: Tangail district is now self-sufficient in egg production. The district's yearly demand for egg is around 500 million, whereas it is producing more than 1.04 billion eggs per year.
Among the total amount, around 1,11,47000 are layer chicken eggs and 10,59,200 are duck eggs.
After mitigating the local demand, locally-produced eggs are sent to other districts across the country.
In the financial year 2017- 2018, egg demand of the district was around 410 million, but the total production was 840 million.
Monday last, district livestock office organised a discussion meeting on World 'Egg days'. Livestock officer S M Awal Hoque addressed the meeting and revealed the increase in production of meat, milk and egg.
One Hali (four pieces) of egg is selling at Tk 36 to Tk 38 in the local market.
Many layer chicken farms are in different upazilas of the district and they are producing millions of eggs, a farm owner Dudu Miah said.
Hilly areas of the district are producing more eggs as weather and environment are suitable for farming layer chicken, he added.
