Tangail wheat growers eye good yield this season

TANGAIL, Mar 03: Wheat cultivation is going on in full swing in the district.
A good number of growers said they are expecting a good yield as weather condition remains favourable.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail, official sources said the department expects to achieve around 18,691 tonnes of wheat output from 5,741 hectares of land in all the 12 upazilas during the current Rabi season.
BARI wheat 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33 are the popular variety in the area.
Farmer Ayub Ali of Sadar upazila said he is growing wheat on 45 decimals of land. The grower expects over 30 maunds of yield.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE, Nargis Akhter said wheat farming is popular in the district. Repeated bumper production inspires the growers to expand the farming of the cereal crop.
Abdur Razzak, deputy director of DAE said farmers apply modern technology in the wheat field. They are also aware to save their crop field from blust disease.
The DAE office sources said farmers can get around 30 to 35 maunds of wheat yield from an acre of land.
Among the 12 upazilas, Sadar, Bhuapur and Nagorpur upazilas are well known for producing good wheat yield. Growers make handsome profit every season producing the popular cereal crop, DAE sources said.
